Acrylic reactor for the automatic production of phytoplankton and zooplankton.


Phyto Reactor


Reactor designed for the cultivation of various species of marine phytoplankton.


In the upper part it has a filling connector, a connector for the supply of food (fertilizer) and a connector for the air compressor (bubbling). The lid is airtight minimizing the risk of external contamination by the accidental entry of any microorganism.

In the lower part it has a conical hopper that collects the dead matter and a valve for emptying and cleaning that will allow an easy collection of the cultivated food.

The reactor is equipped with a led bar of the specific wavelength for the culture of marine phytoplankton

The use of tetraselmis is recommended for the feeding of corals and the maintenance of a culture of rotifers. The nannochloropsis culture is simpler and less prone to contamination by external biological agent but the growth rate and density of it is significantly lower.

The reactor can be used for culturing a mix of tetraselmis and nannochloropsis if desired.



Rotifer Reactor


Reactor designed for the cultivation of rotifers or any other species of marine zooplankton with pelagic behavior. Rotifers are one of the best sources of food for corals and filter invertebrates, as well as copepods, amphipods and other crustaceans.


In the upper part it has a filling connector, a connector for the food supply (phytoplankton) and a connector for the air compressor (bubbling). The lid is airtight minimizing the risk of external contamination by the accidental entry of any microorganism.

In the lower part it has a conical hopper that collects the dead matter and a valve for emptying and cleaning that will allow an easy collection of the cultivated food.


The only difference between this type of reactor and that of phytoplankton is the presence of the lighting bar in it.


Both types of reactor require the use of a small air compressor to maintain the oxygenated cultures. The ambient temperature is sufficient since they withstand a wide range of temperatures and can be installed both inside and outside the sump. They are completely silent and their power consumption is very low since they do not require either pumps or heaters or intensive lighting sources.


The cultivation can be easily automated by using a dosing pump. We recommend the installation of a muffler in the air inlet and the use of seawater not coming from the aquarium for the filling of the reactor.
